COVID-19 Podcast: Black Doctors Tackle Coronavirus

Dr. Cedric "Jamie" Rutland(BlackPressRadio.net) – COVID-19 is ravaging the entire world but one doctor offers hope at a time of sheer panic.

Meet Dr. Cedric “Jamie” Rutland, the triple board certified doc who is rocking social media with his compelling Youtube videos and candid posts about fighting #Coronavirus.

“For the first time ever I can walk into a patient’s room and actually make them worse. I can listen to him. I can talk to them. I can review their lives, their labs and look at their imaging. I can have a perfect plan of action BUT……simply, because of my presence, I can pass them something that’s lethal,” Dr. Rutland share. “That’s why personal protective equipment is important. I’m not bitching about not having any. I am simply saying we live in a COVID and non COVID world now. Physicians, Nurses, Nursing assistants, Respiratory Therapists and volunteers have to work in both. The barrier is PPE. We need a stronger barrier. (Post is Raw and unedited. Straight out of the shower (for the second time today)).”

Dr. Rutland is triple certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care.  Dr. Rutland is a super doctor who hyper focuses on the smallest details. Dr. Rutland completed medical school and an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa and then moved to Kansas where he completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowships at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

“I’m a mechanics guy,” Dr. Rutland says in a video posted on his popular Instagram account where he’s caught the public’s attention for his candor request to make sure doctors have the tools – and protective gear – they need to fight the battle that some of them won’t live to see the end of.

“I rounded today as I have everyday since November 1. I saw multiple COVID patients or “COVID rule out” patients today. As I’ve said previously, the current time in medicine is strange. We walk from patient to patient maybe carrying something that may cause pathology to us, our nurses, our families, our patients. I was stopped today because there was a possibility I had on too much PPE. An ID nurse felt the need to say, “You don’t need that”. Of all the things to say to someone trying so hard to serve, yet, protect. And, why?” Dr. Rutland wrote.

“I watch as people, including physicians, die from an illness that may or may not be spread between droplet and airborne. I’m trying to protect the same people you are. My patients, my family and you. As a leader in the hospital I should be allowed to do that. I understand the desire to conserve for the masses but that means we need to produce more, NOT protect less. We saw the storm coming; please give us the means to fight back.
